Boquitas Pintadas de Frenesi
Oil on canvas

70 x 100 cm
2023

This piece is part of a series of self-portraits that narrate my relationship with motherhood.

Themes I’m exploring with these series are nostalgia, rumination and reflection.  As I mother my children day in and day out, I evaluate how it impacts my life and what it means to me to be a mother in a modern villageless society.

I sometimes catch myself thinking about my young self seeing the women in my life raising their children, and I can’t help but feel that we have all been cheated, at different points in our lives, for different reasons.  The burdens women carry as caregivers keep on growing and at times it honestly feels as though we are invisible to those around us.

Our work, our burdens, our dreams, even our physical bodies at times simply feel invisible. I hope to bring light back to us, the mothers, the caregivers, the carriers of lives.
